Wags Wager: College Football Week 1 Sections

Welcome to the Wags Wager weekly column!  Each week this football season, I will be picking out five games, along with Weekly Winner, that are going to make myself, and my followers a few bucks this football season.  These picks will be a mixture of College and NFL games.  All my spreads that I will use throughout the season will be found on MyBookie.ag

With the NFL still being a week away, we will provide all college football spreads this week.

West Virginia (-9) vs Tennessee

West Virginia QB Will Grier is one of the favorites to hoist the Heisman trophy this season, and Tennessee has been one of the most disappointing college football programs this century.  The Vols hope that new head coach Jermey Pruitt can turn around the program, but it is going to be a long journey, and they have a tough task to kickoff this iteration of Tennessee football.

Oregon State (+38.5) at Ohio State

I know Oregon State is not a good football team, but 38.5 points is a lot when Ohio State is going through the turmoil within the program, no Urban Meyer, and a first year starting quarterback in Dwayne Haskins.  Give me the Beavers to keep it within five touchdowns.

Washington (+2.5) vs Auburn

Auburn is good for one great season every four seasons.  They won the National Championship in 2010, lost the National Championship in 2013, and reached the Peach Bowl last season after having victories against Alabama and Georgia.  That means 2018 is going to be an off-year.  Off-years do not start with top five victories.  Give me Washington all day.

Michigan (-1) at Notre Dame

Michigan is considered one of the best defensive team going into the 2018 season and should be able to handle a Notre Dame offense that has poor quarterback play, lost two top ten picks on the offensive line, and their best playmaker, Josh Adams.  If Ole Miss transfer QB Shea Patterson can get 17 points on the board, that might be enough to get the win in South Bend.

Miami FL (-3.5) vs LSU

It is hard not to love LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, but is it easy to hate their offense.  The Hurricanes are coming off a disappointing ending to 2017– losing each of their last three games and look to bounce back early on in 2018.  If LSU falls behind early, there is no coming back.

Wager of the Week: Texas (-14) vs Maryland

Texas is going to be out for blood in this game.  The Longhorns did more than disappoint in Tom Herman’s Texas debut, losing to a Maryland team that eventually won 4 games last season.  Texas was ranked 23rd in the initial AP poll, and experts think that this could be the breakout year for the Longhorns (this is mentioned every year, but it is the #HornsYear).  Maryland is in the middle of dealing with a horrible situation within their program that will most likely end DJ Durkin’s tenure at Maryland.  Maryland is also just not a good team.  All these factors combined makes me think this game could have Texas winning by well over three touchdowns.

Let the games begin!
