Wags Wager Week 2: September 7th 2018

Welcome to the Wags Wager weekly column!  Each week this football season, I will be picking out seven games, including the Wager of the Week, that are going to make myself, and my followers a few bucks this football season.  These picks will be a mixture of College and NFL games.  All my spreads that I will use throughout the season will be found on MyBookie.ag

Buffalo Bulls (+5) @ Temple Owls

Temple was taken down by the FCS Villanova Wildcats last weekend to start the season, and the Buffalo offense is going to bring another tough test with a high-powered offense.  The Bulls defense isn’t good, but the team should be able to put up points against the Owls defense.  Temple will try to slow the game down, and keep the game close, but I’ll take Buffalo +5.

Clemson Tigers (-13) @ Texas A&M Aggies

This will be Jimbo Fisher’s first test as the head coach of the Aggies and I do not expect it to go well for him.  Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers have been down this road before and have created the closest program to Alabama as you are going to get.  Jimbo’s lack of experience at A&M will hurt him in this matchup, and Clemson will take care of business at Kyle Field.

Ohio State Buckeyes (-35.5) @ Rutgers Scarlet Knights

2016 Matchup: Ohio State 58, Rutgers 0

2017 Matchup: Ohio State 56, Rutgers 0

2018 Matchup: Ohio State 54, Rutgers 0

Rutgers gonna Rutger

Los Angeles Rams (-4.5) @ Oakland Raiders

The Rams are my favorites to be the best team in the regular season in 2018, and the Raiders will be playing their first game under new head coach Jon Gruden with their best player now residing in Chicago.  This Raider defense is going to be bad, and the Rams have the potential of dropping a 40 bomb (never really happens in September football, but one can hope) on Monday Night Football.  Give me the Rams by double digits.

Kansas City Chiefs (+3.5) @ Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have started each of the last 2 seasons with a 1-4 record while the Chiefs started 5-2 in those same years.  That is not a coincidence.  Give Andy Reid all the shit you want, but his teams start off hot and play well off bye weeks.  The Chargers are a popular hype team each season and somehow manage to lose early and often.  I am taking the proven track record in this game.

Tennessee Titans (-2) @ Miami Dolphins

This game is going to suck, but this is Ryan Tannehill’s first meaningful game in two years, and the roster has seen a lot of turnover.  The Titans core has been together for a while now, and I think this is the perfect team for the Mike Vrabel era to start with.  Titans by a field goal.

Wager of the Week

Penn State Nittany Lions (-9.5) @ Pittsburgh Panthers

I am going to preface this with a fact– unbiased fans can make the best analysts.  Penn State has a habit of taking care of business against inferior teams the week after a gritty win.  In 2016, Penn State beat Maryland 38-14 after the overtime win over Minnesota.  The team demolished Purdue after “the block” against Ohio State.  In 2017, the Nittany Lions dismantled the Indiana Hosiers after the last second Juwan Johnson catch against Iowa.  The counterargument that will arise from this is that Penn State vs Pitt is a “rivalry” and it is on the road.  News flash—that crowd is going to have more Penn State fans than Pitt fans.  Last week was a blessing.  It was a wake-up call without the punishment of a loss.  DT Kevin Givens will be back, and there are no way veterans like Cam Brown, Amani Oruwariye, John Reid, Johnson, and DeAndre Thompkins all play as bad as they did last week.  I am all in on a double-digit win, and I am ready to…

#ShitonPitt

Current Record: 1-5 (this is a roller coaster ride.  As the great Aaron Rodgers once said, “RELAX.”)
